Socket Occasional Lamp represents part of a study exploring the boundaries between minimalist sculpture and practical everyday objects by Danish design duo Norm Architects.

A heavy, heavy-duty lamp cast in brass, the Socket Occasional Lamp is designed to fit perfectly into the table, shelf, or nook in the home that needs lighting. The inserted socket is easily removed, so that - with or without a lamp - the lamp also functions as a paperweight. The lamp is inspired by Norm Architects' recent work with geometric jewelry. “In our work, we seek geometric purity”, explain the designers. “We want to achieve maximum expressiveness with minimum expression. It's not about designing fewer products. They are smooth, streamlined shapes that invite you to touch them. ”
